Everyday our teachers create opportunities for exploration and learning by establishing engaging environments where students feel safe, comfortable, and confident. We have amazing instructors who are caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated to helping students exceed their every expectation – read some of their stories below.
Ciara found Pilates and Yoga in college at the University of Maryland, where she was pursuing two degrees – Kinesiology and Communications. She received her Beginner & Intermediate Pilates certification through Power Pilates in 2011. However, when life got busy and her yoga practice faltered, she decided to fully throw herself into her new passion and joined the CorePower Yoga Power 200-hour Teacher Training program in 2013. The 8-weeks in the program changed her life and her practice for the better. She went on to train in Yoga Sculpt, Hot Power Fusion, and Restorative yoga with CorePower and has led several Yoga Sculpt and 200-hour Teacher Trainings since then. Being able to combine her love of fitness, movement, music, and community is exactly what she wants to do with her life and she couldn’t be happier to spread her love of pilates and yoga to everyone she meets.
With your breath, you can do yoga, and benefit from it. The base of my classes is a focus on creating space and connection physically, mentally and emotionally. I craft my sequences to be accessible to beginners, while also challenging for intermediate and advanced students. I offer options in my teaching, my work is to hold space, my voice is a guide in my classes, the student chooses what is best for them on their mat. Being an avid athlete, I am a firm believer that yoga helps us tune in and understand our bodies, it gives us the space to listen, to let go and soften where needed, but also to cultivate and build strength. These qualities follow us off of our mat and help us through our lives each day, yoga is a practice, both on and off the mat.
I have been practicing yoga for approx. 10 years, and teaching for 8 years. I have taught in corporate settings and have regularly scheduled weekly classes just outside of Boston, south of the city. I have a balance of training that allows for a grounding sequence, but also build in other elements to incorporate space and lightness. My training is, 100 Hour Baron Baptiste Certified, 300 Hour Radiant Yoga Certified, 200 Hour Core Power Yoga Certified. In addition, I have Level One a Balanced Athlete Certification, SPA Certification, and Pre-Natal Certification.
I found yoga almost 10 years ago when I left the sport of gymnastics and finally hung up my leotard after 15 years of competing. I needed a way to move my body and yoga seemed like a natural place to start. The grace, balance, strength, and flexibility of the physical practice felt like home to me. However, I was even more pleasantly surprised by the mindfulness and spiritual aspect of the practice. It’s what made me come back to my mat over and over again and still does to this day.
After many years of suffering from anxiety, yoga was the only thing that ever made me realize that the health of the mind and spirit is just as important as the health of the physical body. I knew right away I wanted to be able to hold this space of healing for others. After many years of doubting if I would make a good teacher (anxiety will do that!), I finally broke through my fears and joined a yoga teacher training in 2016 and never looked back.
Educating others about the health of the body and mind is my true passion. By day, I get to do just that as a Certified Health Education Specialist teaching patients about healthcare, and by night, as a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher guiding yogis!
